Our kitchen update we got is beyond what we dreamed possible on our budget. Golden crew maximized every inch of space while creating a warm, inviting atmosphere with the new quartz counters and soft-close drawers. Even the plumbing and electrical upgrades were done seamlessly. The entire process was smooth, and their designer helped us pick finishes that we’ll love for years to come.
I completed a whole house remodel that included flooring, two bathrooms, the kitchen and some structural updates. Naturally, we expected delays and miscommunication at some point, but the experience was smoother than we anticipated. The scheduling stayed fairly consistent and whenever there was an adjustment they explained it clearly instead of leaving us guessing. The finished work feels cohesive from room to room and several visitors have commented on how natural the transitions look throughout the home.

We chose Golden Shore Design and Build to do our master bathroom renovation after meeting with and getting quotes from five different contractors. We decided to go with them based on reviews of their previous work, the thorough and realistic explanation of how the work would be done, and also because their estimate for the work was actually lower than the others. We were dealing directly with the company owner, Alex, in getting the estimate and finalizing the contract details.
Alex provided a complimentary design concept rendering at the start and made good suggestions for the choice of materials and fixtures. It was a complete bathroom remodel (floor, walls, all fixtures, additional lighting, etc.). The work crew were polite and efficient. As with any home renovation there will be dust, however the guys were diligent in minimizing this as much as possible. Everything was done in just over two weeks, including the necessary city inspections (Alex took care of arranging those).
The bathroom came out looking beautiful, the tile work on the floor and in the tub area is gorgeous. Thankfully, no major issues cropped up when the floor and walls were opened up, and the guys devised a great solution to make the vanity fit perfectly in the slightly larger area (the original vanity was custom built during our condo's construction in 1988). Alex oversaw the progress of work with frequent job site visits and a final inspection. So, a positive experience and we now have a beautiful master bathroom. Would work with them again if another project comes up.

The cost to build a 1200 sq ft Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in California varies significantly based on location, design complexity, and material choices. For a standard, detached ADU in the San Diego area, including Chula Vista and National City, homeowners typically see costs ranging from $250 to $350 per square foot. This means a 1200 sq ft unit could total between $300,000 and $420,000. This estimate generally covers foundation, framing, roofing, basic finishes, and essential systems. However, site preparation, utility connections, and permit fees can add 15-20 percent more. For a more accurate breakdown tailored to your specific property, we recommend consulting a local expert. For comprehensive guidance on this topic, please refer to our internal article FAQ Golden Shore Design & Build — San Diego, which covers regional factors and budgeting tips.
An addition involves expanding the square footage of your primary home, typically by building out or up, which increases the overall property value and living space. A JADU, or Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit, is a smaller, self-contained unit built within the existing walls of a single-family home, usually under 500 square feet, and must include its own kitchen and bathroom. The key difference is that an addition connects directly to the main house and shares its systems, while a JADU is a separate living space with its own entrance. For more detailed guidance on these options, you can refer to our internal article titled Room Addition / ADU (JADU). At Golden Shore Design and Build, we recommend evaluating your property's zoning and your long-term needs to choose the best fit.
The cost to build a 2 bedroom ADU in San Diego typically ranges from $200,000 to $400,000, depending on factors like design complexity, materials, and site conditions. A detached ADU often costs more than a garage conversion due to new foundation and utility connections. Permit fees, impact fees, and engineering costs add $15,000 to $30,000. For an accurate estimate, you should get a detailed quote from a licensed contractor.
